Kreuz & Quer: "COMMODITY WOMAN" on August 19th on ORF

Katrin Mackowski did extensive milieu research for her film "Commodity Woman. Forced into Prostitution" (35 min), which aired on August 19th at 10:30 p.m. on ORF 2. The documentary focuses on two nuns, Patricia Erber in Vienna and Silke Mallmann in Klagenfurt, who with their organizations have made it their mission to help exploited women and girls who are mostly immigrant women from developing countries and from the east. The women are often sold by their own families, or flee the poverty of their home country in hope of a better life. In Austria, professional traffickers await these women to force them into prostitution and put them under extreme pressure. With no passport, no work, and unable to speak the language, it is almost impossible for them to escape their situation. A few individuals like Anna from Romania and Amira from Nigeria managed to escape with the help of the nuns. These two women had the courage to talk about their experiences for the film.
