The feature documentary “Plastic Planet” airs 10/05/2011 on prime time ORF.
After years of research, director Werner Boote suggested the project to producer Thomas Bogner in 2003. Materials development, financing and worldwide filming took six years to complete, before “Plastic Planet” opened in 28 cinemas throughout Austria on September 18th, 2009. More than 110,000 moviegoers saw the film, which inspired many to rethink and change their consumer behavior.
Werner Boote presents his own personal version of the global confrontation with the fascinating, ubiquitous material “plastic” and takes the audience to all the locations where the 100-year triumph of plastic has had an unexpected and adventurous effect.
“Plastic Planet” was also a box office success in Germany and was shown in cinemas in several other European countries, including France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy as well as the USA. In 2010, Werner Boote received the UmweltMedienpreis der Deutschen Umwelthilfe (Environmental Media Award of the German Environmental Aid).
