Leaving the body, being bathed in divine light, experiencing cosmic harmony and encountering the dead are the experiences most commonly reported by those who were brought back from the brink of death. But how can you talk about something for which there are no words? In 1995, a severe illness took Sabine Mehne to the brink of death where she had a drastic, life-changing experience as her spirit left her body. Bernhard Marmorstein, who was revived after a diving accident in Attersee in 2004, also describes dark feelings and fears during the transition to the other world. The subject is of course fascinating for those who believe in the esoteric and spiritual, and increasingly also for physicians and scientists. After all, it concerns the ultimate secret; the question of the existence of a soul or consciousness and a possible life after death.
