Is the future of Islam female and is the Muslim community ready for such a change?
When Afro-American scientist Amina Wadud publicly led an Islamic Friday prayer in front of men and women in New York for the first time in 2005, Muslims around the world were outraged. For according to Islamic Orthodoxy, women are only allowed to lead purely female prayer groups. Over 10 years later, in many countries of the world there are also female theologians, teachers and educated women fighting for gender equality. The documentary visits Denmark's first female Imam Sherin Khankan in Copenhagen, mosque founder Seyran Ates in Berlin and the women's representative of the IGGÖ Carla Amina Baghajati in Vienna.
