Is the end of the light bulb the end of democracy? That is the question posed in this documentary film which takes the ban on light bulbs as an opportunity to expose the power and machinations of the industry. Writer and director Christopher Mayr and cameraman Moritz Gieselmann, who came up with the idea for the film, want to know how it is possible for industry representatives and lobbyists to influence the policy decisions on which products citizens may or may not use in a democracy. And how can we as citizens protect ourselves against such governmental control.
Andreas Payer proposed the project to producer Thomas Bogner in the fall of 2009. The script development, financing, and filming at locations around the globe could all be completed within just two years.
"Bulb Fiction" is an Austrian-German co-production between Neue Sentimental Film and Daniel Zuta film and was supported by the Vienna Film Fund, Film Institute, ORF Film/Television Agreement, German Federal Film Fund and Investment Bank Hessen. World Sales: Telepool
